I am Sarah Furstenberg, and I opened Clover in June 2004 in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Before I moved to Seattle, I was graphic and textile designer. In addition, I worked in a children’s store in San Francisco. I am a mother of two boys who were 6 and 10 when the Seattle toy store opened. The store is a reflection of the toys, clothes and other things my children have needed and loved to play with, as well as all the wonderful things I wished I had when I was a child.
I looked for an entire year before I made a choice about the store location. I wanted to find a neighborhood in a place where people from all over the Seattle metropolitan area could come. Ballard was a perfect choice. The neighborhood is full of families, young singles, as well as grandparents who have lived here for decades. The downtown shopping area is bursting with interesting boutiques, practical errand running stores and restaurants.
I want Clover to be a magnet for children and adults. Children should enjoy looking and touching. They should see ways in which they can pretend, learn, and just have fun. Children should enjoy being children and at the same time learn more about their own world and the world of imagination. Adults can enjoy the color, the design, practicality, and delight of the toys, clothes, and furnishings.
Of course, we hope that you will visit my Seattle toy store and find beautiful toys and clothes for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. But if you cannot come, we can offer you a personal tour by telephone so that you can choose the perfect gift for us to ship out. We also offer gift certificates for new moms and for children. Oh, how children love to wander the aisles and pick out something for themselves.
